Bernard Fölls "Dance In Reality"
Fölls pictures create a magical allure to the viewer. At first glance, they are aesthetical compositions, with
the technical illustrations that are similar to the style of a comic book or an advertisement. The colours are
mostly broken and vague which may be displeasing to the eye. The different picture elements are
informally composed and though they are unpleasant. they are far from trying to impress the viewer will
with attractions. Everything stays within the borders.
It is exciting when one concentrates on the pictures and begins to see more and more the cheerful
looseness that lies within the layers. There are connotations and relationships, quotes and ironies that
subtly slumber and await discovery by the viewer. Vilém Flusser wrote in his 1983 essay "For a
philosophy of photography", "Concerning pictures: While a wandering look of an image can grasp one
element after another, he produces a relationship between them. He can return to an element that has
already been examined and the "before" becomes the "after". At the same time, however, the view
produces a meaningful relationship between the elements. Then originates the complex meaning in which
one element borrows from the other and by doing so, achieves its own meaning... The pictures own
space-time is not unlike the world of magic."
In this sense, Fölls pictures are magical works.
For over twenty years Föll has been creating a work which one can still call undiscovered.Spotlights and
effects are foreigh to him, just like the bigger gestures and his pictures are well wirth seeing. In the middle
of the eighties he started follewing an internal impulse and began producing collages depicting and
dealing with political and social subjects. While the world around him discovered the new wildness and
ferocity of the eighties, Föll discovered his ownquite unique painting style. Fölls tools already express the
baseness of his standpoint, the use of self-made stencils and the laborious colour order though spots:
Patient reflection, playful creating and well thought-out statement.
His pictures wait for the viewer because they want to the read. They reflect the consumer society, media
society and information society without bering the viewer by flat interpretations. Instead they let different
figures, circumstances and rooms as they might appear in a theatre so that one is effectively inclined to
think of a dance of sorts. These pictures are "worth seeing" in the most true sense of the phrase.

In seinem
und Beteiligungen bei M.A.I.S. nimmt Bernard Föll 2009 erstmalig an Berlin Art Tower teil.
In the artworks of Bernard Föll the past, present and vision seem to overlap; pictographs, quotations
from comic, advertising and media are melting with images from our collective memory. Föll is using
fragments out of his inexhaustible archive. His working technique using Acrylic painting overworked with
stencil and spotting underlines the multi-layers of his work: back grounded paintings becoming diffuse
for the benefit of clear, figurative Elements, flying objects or architectures, which structure them
compositorically. In his current works autobiographical elements are more and more occurring.
